Former StanChart Senior Private Banker Charged In HK With Bribery

A former senior private banker for UK-listed has been charged with bribery by authorities in Hong Kong, media reports said.

The charges have been brought against Ryan Gwee Yuan-kerr by Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption. He is accused of accepting a bribe of $150,000 on 11 August 2011.

ICAC reportedly said Yuan-kerr accepted money from a then chairman cum major shareholder of an insurance company as a reward for handling his bank account and bank accounts of the companies that the chairman controlled.

At the period when the offence allegedly occurred, the banker oversaw the sales team from the private banking division of StanChart Hong Kong. ICAC reportedly said the case originated from a corruption complaint.

Reports said Yuan-kerr has been released on bail; no plea was entered and the case has been deferred to February, media reports added.
