ANZ Makes Senior Appointment, Plans More Hires

This publication brings news of appointments in Asia's wealth management sector.

Australia and New Zealand Banking Group has hired Darren Whereat as general manager for aligned dealers and advice standards, a move that will lead to more hires, it says.

Whereat has over 25 years’ experience in financial services, having served as chief executive of RI Advice, BT Financial Group, Asgard and MLC.
In this new position at ANZ, he will be based in Sydney, responsible for the group’s financial planners and the advice standards across the aligned network. Whereat will report to Alexis George, managing director wealth Australia.

“Over the last three years Darren has made a strong contribution to our business as chief executive of RI Advice. This coupled with his significant industry experience will make him a valuable addition to the wealth Australia leadership team,” said George.

“With Darren’s appointment to this new role, we will begin the recruitment process for the chief executive of RI Advice over the coming weeks,” George added.

The hire follows last week’s naming of Vishnu Shahaney as the group’s new CEO for its Indonesia business. Shahaney takes over from Joseph Abraham, who leaves the firm after more than seven years in the role. For another move in the Pacific Rim region, see here.
