Alternative Investments Research House Launches Performance Monitor

The firm that since 2003 has tracked the growth of private equity and other alternative investments is launching a service shedding light on performance.

Preqin is launching a performance-tracking service for clients amid intensifying interest in the private capital space.

The cloud-based platform is called Preqin Solutions; it contains tools that enable managers to get a fast and efficient view of what investments are worth and explain this easily to clients.

The development follows Preqin’s acquisition of 11-year-old Baxon Solutions in November last year.

“The private equity industry is facing a period of increasing reporting and regulatory challenges, in addition to unprecedented levels of competition for capital,” said Chris Ferguson, chief executive at Preqin.

As reported by this publication, wealth managers are increasingly interested in private capital (equity, debt, infrastructure, real estate) as sources of return, particularly given low returns on certain traditional assets. Data about private equity returns, however, remains relatively scattered and opaque.

Preqin said the software of its new platform automates the compilation, analysis and exchange of all portfolio information including operating metrics (financial, key performance indicators, environmental, social and governance issues), investment valuations, and ultimately investment and aggregate fund performance.
