Asian Insurer Names New Singapore CEO

The group provides life and medical insurance, general insurance and employee benefits

FWD Group, the diversified insurer with a big focus on digital tech, has appointed Khor Kee Eng as chief executive for FWD Singapore, subject to regulatory approval. The move follows another C-suite executive hire a few days before.

Kee will report to the board of directors for FWD Singapore. He succeeds the previous CEO Abhishek Bhatia, who is moving to a new role of chief officer of new business models at FWD, where he will focus on growing the digital direct-to-consumer business across the company as well as enhancing the structuring and execution of FWD’s digital partnerships and investments.

Prior to this, Kee joined FWD Singapore as chief financial officer in March 2019. Previously he had been group chief actuary at Malaysia’s Tune Protect Group.

FWD arose in 2013 when Pacific Century Group said it was buying ING’s Hong Kong, Macau and Thailand insurance businesses. The group built a new insurance company that became FWD. (Later in 2013 Pacific Century Group was joined by new minority shareholder Swiss Re. Other investors were Singapore’s GIC Ventures, RRJ Capital Master Fund III, and China’s Hopu Investments.) The organisation is present in Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan and Indonesia.

In February FWD Group said it had appointed Simeon Preston as managing director and group chief operating officer. He succeeded Rob Schimek, who moved to a wider role in the FWR group, including focusing on digital capabilities.

The group provides life and medical insurance, general insurance and employee benefits.
