Bank Of East Asia Warns Of Another Bogus Website

BEA is urging customers not to access a fraudulent website purporting to be the Hong Kong-headquartered bank.

Bank Of East Asia, which provides services including wealth management, has announced that it has no affiliation whatsoever with a fraudulent website with the address www.bankofeastasia-uk.com.

The bank, whose website is at www.hkbea.com, warned in a statement that the fraudulent website contains a link to a banking login page, which attempts to obtain customers’ login names and passwords.

BEA said it had reported the above incident to the Hong Kong Police and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and “will take any action deemed necessary and appropriate to protect the reputation of the bank and the interests of its customers and the general public”.

The latest warning from the bank follows on swiftly from that of fake website www.bk.hkbetas.com last month. Earlier this year, authorities in Hong Kong warned the public about fraudulent websites purporting to be hosted by China CITIC Bank International and Citibank (Hong Kong).
