Citi Snags Merrill Lynch Senior Figure To Head China Investment Banking

Citi has boosted its China investment banking team with the hire of industry veteran Catherine Cai.

Citigroup has appointed Bank of America Merrill Lynch's Catherine Cai as chairman and head of China investment banking.

Cai joins the global bank after a decade with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where she was most recently chairman of China investment banking.

In her new role, Cai will report to Mark Slaughter, head of corporate and investment banking for Citi in Asia-Pacific. She brings over 20 years' experience in China's investment banking space.

"Catherine is a great addition to our China investment banking team. She has excellent client relationships around the region and has been involved on several landmark and groundbreaking transactions from China during her career,” said Slaughter in a statement.

According to Dealogic data, Citi has raised over $130 billion from capital markets for Chinese issuers over the last couple of years.
