Citigroup Names New Research Head For Asia South, JANA

Citigroup has appointed a new head of research for Japan, Asia North & Australia (JANA) and Asia South.
Citigroup has appointed Erica Poon Werkun (pictured) as the head of research for Japan, Asia North & Australia (JANA) and Asia South.
She reports to Lucy Baldwin, global head of research, the firm said in a statement. Based in Hong Kong, Poon Werkun will lead the development and execution of the US bank’s client, product and business strategies for JANA and Asia South, working with its business partners. Other responsibilities include: board member of Citigroup Global Markets Asia and Citigroup Global Markets Hong Kong Holdings; a member of the Global Research ExComm; and chair of the JANA & Asia South Research Executive Committee and the Pan-Asia Research Operating Committee.
Poon Werkun joined Citigroup in June 2025 as JANA and Asia South deputy head of research and became the interim head of research for JANA and Asia South in September 2025, the bank continued.
Prior to Citigroup, she was managing director and head of Asia Pacific Research at Credit Suisse from 2019 to 2024; she worked at UBS for 15 years, as head of research in China; and before that as head of Asian consumer and internet research. Before joining UBS, Poon Werkun was at Goldman Sachs covering the consumer and technology sectors in Hong Kong and Taiwan. She also worked in technology investment banking for CSFB in Palo Alto and Hong Kong, and Cowen in New York and San Francisco.
Poon Werkun holds a BS in economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, she is a board member of the Wharton Executive Board for Asia, and is a recipient of the Individual Achievement Award for Women in Finance Asia.
