Deals Of The Day: The Latest In Wealth Management M&A – Manulife, Schroders

The latest mergers, acquisitions and other corporate actions in the wealth management sector.

Manulife
Manulife Wealth & Asset Management, part of Canada-headquartered Manulife, has agreed to buy PT Schroder Investment Management Indonesia – part of UK-listed Schroders – for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition is being undertaken via PT Manulife Aset Manajemen Indonesia, or MAMI.

The transaction is expected to close following the satisfactory completion of certain closing conditions (including regulatory approval from the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan), the Indonesia regulator. Until the acquisition is completed, both firms will continue to operate independently and maintain full regulatory compliance, they said in a statement yesterday.

Manulife Wealth & Asset Management has been present in Indonesia since 1996, when it established MAMI. Schroders, which has been operating in Indonesia since 1991, established the investment business in 1997.

The firms said the Schroders Indonesia team, present in the country for more than 30 years, is the fifth largest asset manager in Indonesia and the largest independent asset management platform in the Southeast Asian country.

As of 30 June 2025, MAMI managed IDR101.7 trillion ($6.043 billion) in assets. As of 30 June 2025, Schroders managed assets totalling more than IDR56 trillion in Indonesia.
