Deutsche's Private Wealth Unit Makes Raft Of Senior Appointments In Asia

Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management has appointed former DBS senior executive Kwong Kin Mun as head of private banking Southeast Asia, as well as making a number of other hires for its Asian division.

The appointment of Mr Kwong takes effect from 21 December this year, Deutsche, the Frankurt-listed banking group, said in a statement today. He will report to Ravi Raju, head of Deutsche Bank PWM, Asia Pacific.

This is the second major appointment to have been announced by Deutsche since the start of this week. On Monday, Germany's biggest bank said that its private wealth managment division had appointed Kevin Lecocq – formerly chief investment officer at Barclays Wealth – as a managing director and head of global investment solutions. Mr Lecocq takes up his new post in early 2010.

In today's announcement, Deutsche said that Mr Kwong, who will be based in Singapore, will be responsible for the strategic direction of Deutsche PWM’s Southeast Asia business and leading a team of over 100 staff. His division focuses on wealthy families and entrepreneurs in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Mr Kwong joins DBS Private Bank in Singapore, where as head of private banking South Asia, he was responsible for managing and developing DBS’ private banking business in the region. Mr Kwong previously held senior private banking positions at Citigroup Private Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and UBS Wealth Management. He also had experience as a Financial Consultant at Merrill Lynch.

Meanwhile, Deutsche said the six Singapore-based bankers, two of whom have already begun work at Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management, consist of former executives from UBS Wealth Management, Citigroup Private Bank, Merrill Lynch and DBS Private Bank.

They include Khushroo Dastur - formerly from Citigroup Private Bank, who has been appointed managing director and team head; and Yeo Yek Kian - formerly from UBS, who has been appointed Director and Relationship Manager.

The other four bankers, who will assume their appointments over the next two months include Yoon Phooi Leng - formerly from UBS, who will be appointed managing director and senior client partner; Didi Kurniawan - formerly from Merrill Lynch, who will be appointed director and team head; and Mabel Chua and Mary Lee - formerly from DBS Private Bank who will join as managing director, Group Head South East Asia and Director respectively.
