Japan's SMBC Names Asia-Pacific Corporate Banking Head

The newly-appointed figure's overall responsibility includes private banking team members. The teams work closely with the broader SMBC Group to deliver integrated wealth solutions, leveraging its corporate relationships, to address the wealth management needs of clients with companies.

Japanese group Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation has appointed Joyce Tee as head of corporate banking department for Asia-Pacific. Tee is based in Singapore.

Tee is succeeding Hideo Uchida, who will be moving to another leadership role in the SMBC Group after a handover period.

Asked how Tee’s role affects wealth management and private banking, a spokesperson told this publication: “Joyce holds overall responsibility of the private banking team along with corporate coverage bankers. The teams work closely with the broader SMBC Group to deliver integrated wealth solutions, leveraging our strong corporate relationships, to address the wealth management needs of clients with companies.”

Tee brings more than three decades of banking experience, most recently as managing director and head of institutional banking group at DBS China. Previously, Tee served as group head of small- and medium-sized enterprise banking at DBS. She has also held senior positions at OCBC Bank and MetroBank NA USA.

Katsufumi Uchida is head of APAC at SMBC.
