List Says Who Are The Richest Persons In Indonesia

A new list of the richest persons in Indonesia has been published - with familiar names at the top.

The wealthiest Indonesians are banking bosses Budi and Michael Harton, with a collective net worth of $16.5 billion, the latest Forbes Indonesia Rich List says. These brothers head the list for the sixth straight year running, the publication said.

The brothers have seen their fortunes rise by more than $1 billion, because shares in their most valuable holding, Bank Central Asia, have risen by 50 per cent this year, it said.

In general, Indonesia’s 50 richest persons are collectively worth $102 billion, up from $95 billion last year. The minimum net worth needed to make the list this year is $500 million, up from $390 million, the report said.

Such wealth is already exciting the interest of private banks, some of whom serve this kind of ultra high net worth population locally or via hubs such as Singapore. (To read an article about Indonesia’s potential, published last year, see here.) Indonesia has recently seen the election of a new government (see here).

The top 10 richest in Indonesia are:
1) Budi & Michael Hartono; US$16.5 billion;
2) Susilo Wonowidjojo; $8 billion;
3) Anthoni Salim; $5.9 billion;
4) Eka Tjipta Widjaja; $5.8 billion;
5) Sri Prakash Lohia; $4.4 billion;
6) Chairul Tanjung; $4.3 billion;
7) Boenjamin Setiawan; $3.5 billion;
8) Mochtar Riady; $2.7 billion;
9) Peter Sondakh; $2.3 billion;
10) Sukanto Tanoto; $2.11 billion.

Forbes said the list was compiled using shareholding and financial information obtained from the families and individuals, stock exchanges, analysts and other sources. The ranking lists family fortunes, including those shared among extended families such as that of Susilo Wonowidjojo. Public fortunes were calculated based on stock prices and exchange rates as of 14 November. Private companies were valued based on similar companies that are publicly traded.
