Manulife (International) Limited, a member of the Manulife Financial group of companies, has appointed Michael Ting as chief legal and compliance officer to its Hong Kong office.

Manulife (International) Limited, a member of the Manulife Financial group of companies, has appointed Michael Ting as chief legal and compliance officer to its Hong Kong office.

Manulife said in a statement that Ting will head up the Hong Kong legal and compliance functions, providing advice to the senior management.

Ting has more than 20 years of experience in legal and compliance areas and prior to joining Manulife held various senior legal and compliance positions at local and regional level with life insurers in Hong Kong.   

“Michael’s expertise in legal and compliance areas will bring different strengths to Manulife and the senior management team. His in-depth understanding of the industry will facilitate our business needs in all distribution channels and business lines in Manulife,” said Michael Huddart, Manulife’s executive vice president and general manager for Greater China.

In May, Manulife Singapore named Naveed Irshad as new president and chief executive, covering life insurance, wealth management and retirement solutions. He replaced Annette King, who was named vice president for client centricity, brand and communications in Asia

Canada-headquartered Manulife posted a 37 per cent drop in total wealth sales in Asia in the three months to 31 March 2014, with declines experienced across various markets. Reasons cited included lower sales in China and the timing of fund launches and were partly offset by increased sales in Taiwan and contributions from its acquisition in Malaysia.
