Manulife Promotes Veteran Manager In Hong Kong

Toronto-headquartered financial services group Manulife, which includes wealth management in its offerings, has promoted Ivan Chan to vice president and head of business development, distribution operations, in Hong Kong. 

His new role will be to expand the firm’s individual insurance business and market its wide range of insurance products through agency and other distribution channels. Chan also leads distribution training, development and agency recruitment and sales promotion teams, supporting the company’s growth in Hong Kong and Macau.

Chan reports to Lawrence Nutting, chief distribution officer, Hong Kong. He joined Manulife as a management trainee in 1999 and took up several roles in individual insurance product marketing and agency operations in both Hong Kong and Macau. In 2011, he was advanced to chief agency development officer in Manulife Insurance Berhad, Malaysia, overseeing agency development, product development and related marketing functions there.

Relocating back to Hong Kong in March 2013, Chan became assistant vice president, field management, responsible for managing the sales and recruitment of Manulife’s agency force in Hong Kong and developing strategic directions for the team. In January 2014, he headed up business development, individual financial products.

Chan holds a Master's in business administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and is a fellow of the Life Management Institute.
