Oppenheimer & Co Launches Global Fund Placement, Advisory Group

The new group will provide services to alternative investment firms, a sign of how this area is continuing to grow in the current financial environment.

Oppenheimer & Co, the investment banking and wealth management house, has launched a global fund placement and advisory group.

The group will provide services to alternative investment firms to help them fulfil their fundraising ambitions and strategic plans. Services will include strategic and tactical advice as well as fundraising services, both for primary funds and transactions, Oppenheimer said in a statement.

The entity will be led by Tanya McHale, managing director, who will be based in London. McHale will report to Lowenthal, head of investment banking in North America, and Max Lami, Oppenheimer EMEA chief executive and head of investment banking. She will be joined by MD Andrew Roberts, director Marcus Klasse and associate Curran Gaur, who are all joining Oppenheimer from MVision Private Equity Advisers.

The team will operate globally with further hires being made in the US and Asia, the firm said.

"The Investment Banking Division is expanding its efforts around private capital formation with a focus on institutional private market investors. The FPA Group will provide the division with enhanced capabilities to offer alternative investment firms an even broader and deeper portfolio of value-added services that complement the resources, relationships and thought leadership of the global Oppenheimer platform,” Robert Lowenthal, Oppenheimer's senior managing director and head of investment banking, said.

Prior to joining Oppenheimer, McHale served as an MD at MVision, which she first joined at its founding in 2001. Prior to MVision, she worked at Credit Suisse First Boston and DLJ in London.

At MVision, Roberts played a role in origination, fundraising execution and strategic advisory work, as well as distribution, with a focus on investors in the UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Prior to MVision, Roberts worked at Cebile Capital in London for five years.

In September last year, Oppenheimer & Co and fintech house InvestCloud announced that they were partnering to build a new financial advisor platform.
