One of the most famous violin’s in existence, the Guarneri del Gesu 1737 violin, which was once owned by Isaac Stern, has been bought by Lugano-based private bank, BSI.

BSI has lent the violin to the renowned French violinist Renaud Capucon, who, according to the bank, will use it on his international tours.

The BSI Guarneri del Gesù 1737 violin was made by Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri, the best-known member of the famous family of violin makers in the Italian town of Cremona.

The instrument co-starred in the documentary about Isaac Stern’s visit to China, From Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China, which won an Academy Award in 1981.
