Standard Chartered Adds To Chief Investment Office Capabilities

The bank has made two senior hires – in Singapore and Hong Kong – spanning equities, fixed income and forex.
Standard Chartered has appointed Sundeep Gantori (pictured below) – based in Singapore – as global chief investment officer for equities, which is a new position at the bank.
The UK-listed bank said the move was part of its aim to build out its affluent business.

Gantori brings close to two decades of experience as an equity strategist. He was previously at UBS, where he was most recently CIO equity strategist at UBS Global Wealth Management Chief Investment Office, involved with global tech, including semiconductors, software, internet, IT services, and hardware. He was also responsible for managing the CIO’s AI portfolio globally.
The lender has also named Jonathan Liang (pictured below) as chief investment officer for fixed income and foreign exchange – another new role.

Based in Hong Kong, Liang will lead the CIO fixed income and forex strategy team and drive the adoption of the CIO’s fixed income, forex and commodity strategy offering, partnering the frontline teams. With more than 25 years of experience in investments, he has joined from JP Morgan Asset Management, where he was most recently head of Asia ex-Japan investment specialists, global fixed income, currency and commodities group. He was responsible for leading the fixed income portfolio advisory for global financial institutions and fintech platforms, as well as institutional clients including sovereign wealth funds and central banks.
Both men will report to Steve Brice, global chief investment officer.
