UBS GWM Hires Head Of Philanthropy For Greater China

The Swiss bank said her appointment is a testament to it's commitment to philanthropy, bringing offerings to clients including philanthropy advisory, UBS Optimus Foundation and Community Impact.

UBS Global Wealth Management appointed Ming Geng this week as head of philanthropy services for Hong Kong and Greater China.

Based in Hong Kong, Geng will report to Tom Hall, managing director and head of social impact and philanthropy services, with local supervision by Christina Tung, head of A&S client services, UBS said in an internal memo seen by WealthBriefing.

Geng has over 25 years of professional experience in global health, global development, government affairs and philanthropy. Before joining UBS, Geng was the head of corporate affairs at Viatris Pharmaceutical Co Ltd, Greater China. She provided consulting for Gates Ventures and United National Development Programs as senior advisor, UBS added.

Previously, she was the deputy director at the China office of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation from 2007 to 2019. She led the office’s policy advocacy and government relations team and oversaw multiple programmes in China, including philanthropic partnerships, poverty alleviation, HIV/AIDS prevention and control, tobacco control, water and sanitation, agricultural development, and a body of work supporting China’s role in health and development for the African continent.

Prior to this, she spent over 10 years in leadership and management positions in global organisations, including The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, the Yew Chung Education Foundation, and UNICEF.

She holds a medical degree from the University of Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences and is a public health doctoral candidate at Johns Hopkins University.

A spokesperson for the Swiss bank confirmed the appointment.
