Wealth, Size Of China's HNW Population Seen Rising Strongly Through 2017

A report points to continued rapid growth in the number, and the wealth, of the Chinese HNW population over the next three years.
The number of high net worth individuals in China and their wealth are expected to rise significantly between now and 2107, according to a report on the country by Research and Markets. The findings bolster other surveys from the likes of RBC Wealth Management/Capgemini, among others.
The report said the total number of Chinese HNW individuals is forecast to grow by 34 per cent, to reach 2.2 million in 2017. HNW individuals’ wealth will rise 50 per cent to reach $9.4 trillion by 2017, it said.
The report summarises developments up to 2013 from 2007, charting how well or badly people fared during the financial crisis year of 2008.
There were just over 1.4 million HNW individuals in China in 2012, holding $5.2 trillion in wealth, equivalent to 27 per cent of country's total individual wealth.
This population cohort outperformed their counterparts in other parts of the world: the number of HNW individuals in China increased by around 89.9 per cent during the review period from 779,896 such persons in 2008 to 1,481,363 of them in 2012.
