Wealth Manager Goes After Offensive Comments Against Singaporeans

British expat and Crossinvest Asia executive Anton Casey has lost his job after making derogatory comments on his social media page about Singaporeans.

Crossinvest Asia, the Singapore wealth management firm, has "parted ways" with British banker Anton Casey after the latter sparked outrage for his derisive comments against Singaporeans on his social media account, the firm said in a statement.

Casey, a wealth manager married to a former Singapore beauty queen and who has permanent residency in the city-state, referred to commuters as "poor people" in his account. In a succeeding post, he wrote "Normal service can resume, once I have washed the stench of public transport off me...!"

These comments add to other previous negative posts about the locals. Casey has been living in Singapore for 11 years.

"The online comments made by Mr Casey do not represent the culture that we have built over many years. Accordingly, Crossinvest Asia and [him] have parted ways with immediate effect," said the company in a statement posted on its social media page on 25 January.

The company also issued an earlier statement in 22 January acknowledging the existence of comments made by its employee and saying that it "... does not condone the offending comments. We believe they were made in poor taste."

Casey issued a public apology, but the damage has already been done as the posts had gone viral. According to local media reports, Casey has left the country to seek refuge in Perth, Australia.
