What's New In Investments, Funds? - The D E Shaw Group

The latest news in funds and investments from across Asia.

The US-based D E Shaw group, the investment and technology development firm, has launched its first onshore investment product in China. The fund will use a systematic futures strategy to earn returns.

This publication has sought to clarify how the fund works and will update in due course.

The firm said that it has been active in mainland China since the mid-2000s, and the new fund will draw on the group's experience of managing systematic futures strategies across a number of global markets.

"We believe that markets in China provide an excellent environment for investment," Julius Gaudio, executive committee member, the D E Shaw group, said.

The Asset Management Association of China approved the firm's Private Securities Investment Fund Manager licence for a wholly foreign-owned enterprise in April, enabling it to raise renminbi-denominated funds from mainland Chinese investors and to invest directly in markets in China.

The group oversees more than $50 billion of client assets, as at 1 September.
