HSBC
HSBC has appointed Henry
Tong (main picture) as head of customer, international and
marketing for Singapore, effective 19 October 2026.
Tong, who is joining from Citi, will lead customer proposition, customer experience and brand and marketing for HSBC’s International Wealth and Premier Banking business in Singapore. The role is aimed at developing the bank’s offering for customers with cross-border banking and investment needs.
Tong spent his career at Citi, where he was most recently managing director and head of wealth continuum for Asia South Wealth.
Singapore is HSBC’s fifth-largest geographic contributor to group profit before tax. It is also the bank’s primary wholesale offshore booking centre and its wealth hub in ASEAN.
The bank, which has opened four new Wealth Centres since 2024, has been investing heavily in the market. It plans to double technology spending over five years and increase investment in its physical network fivefold. HSBC has also announced plans to hire 100 additional relationship managers, recruit more than 100 AI specialists and set up a Global AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore.
The appointment comes as global banks compete for clients and senior staff in Singapore, which has become one of Asia’s main wealth booking centres alongside Hong Kong.
