Who's Moving Where In Wealth Management? - Stephenson Harwood, Sun Life, KKR

The latest moves in senior wealth management roles across Asia-Pacific.

Stephenson Harwood
Law firm Stephenson Harwood has appointed Wei Kang as a partner in its Hong Kong office, bolstering its international private wealth practice.

Kang advises clients on international estate and asset protection planning, the Canadian tax and corporate aspects of private wealth structures, and the development of family governance structures. She has experience in a variety of cross-border deals, including the mergers and acquisitions of private corporations, corporate reorganisations and trust planning transactions. Kang has joined the firm from DLA Piper.

“Wei’s arrival is strategically important for the development of our private wealth practice in Greater China, and across the Asia region more widely,” Kevin Lee, partner and head of Stephenson Harwood’s private wealth practice in Greater China, said. “Wei brings a track record of advising clients on their tax and estate planning across a wide range of jurisdictions, and her expertise, combined with her Chinese language skills, complements our existing offering.”

Kang is the second partner to join Stephenson Harwood’s private wealth team in Asia in less than two months, following the arrival of Suzanne Johnston in Singapore.

Sun Life Financial
Canada-listed Sun Life Financial has appointed Luc Nhon Ly as chief executive of Sun Life Vietnam, following the return of former Vietnam CEO Larry Madge to Sun Life's corporate office in Toronto.

Luc Nhon Ly brings more than 26 years of expertise to the role, in a career spanning executive, finance, strategy, and actuarial roles across Vietnam, Myanmar and Canada. He joins from AIA where he was most recently CEO of AIA Myanmar and prior to that spent 12 years at AIA Vietnam, mostly as the chief financial officer.

He has also worked at ACE Life in Vietnam, Canada Life in Toronto and L'Industrielle-Alliance in Montreal.

Luc Nhon Ly, who reports to Ingrid Johnson, Sun Life Asia president, is a member of the Sun Life Asia executive team.

KKR
Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, aka KKR, has appointed K V Kamath as a senior advisor to KKR India. His appointment is effective immediately.

Kamath brings more than five decades of experience of building and leading large Indian businesses. Most recently, Kamath served as the first president of the New Development Bank, a multilateral development bank, from its founding in 2015 until 2020. Prior to that, he was chairman of ICICI Bank and Infosys, two of India’s largest companies.

In October 2021, Kamath was appointed as chair of India’s newly-established National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development, which was created to support the development of long-term infrastructure financing in the country.
