Hong Kong Warns HSBC Clients Over Fake Website

The email requests clients to use an embedded hyperlink to connect to a fraudulent website and provide personal data such as identity card numbers and credit card details.
HSBC has stated that it has not sent such emails and has no connection to the fraudulent website, the HKMA said in a statement.
The regulator and central bank has issued a raft of alerts in recent months about fake websites, highlighting an ever-present problem of cybercrime in the region. Bank of East Asia and Bank of China, among others, have recently warned of such scams.
“Members of the public are reminded not to access their Internet banking accounts through hyperlinks embedded in e-mails, Internet search engines or suspicious pop-up windows. Instead, they should access their Internet banking accounts by typing the website addresses at the address bar of the browser, or by bookmarking the genuine website and using that for access,” a spokesperson for the HKMA said.
