Credit Suisse's Singapore CEO Departs

Credit Suisse Group’s Singapore chief executive officer Wong Chien Chien is leaving the bank. "We can confirm that Chien Chien is leaving the bank," a spokesperson for the bank told WealthBriefingAsia. "Rehan Anwer will be appointed CEO Singapore, subject to regulatory approval, in addition to his current roles as CEO Southeast Asia and Head of Southeast Asia, IBCM. Dominique Boer will take on the role of Deputy CEO Singapore, subject to regulatory approval, in addition to her current roles as CEO SymAsia Foundation and WM Market Group head Singapore and Singapore Booking Center," the spokeperson said. Wong began her career with CS First Boston in 1992 and has held key leadership positions across Singapore, Hong Kong and New York, including chief operating officer for the Asia-Pacific division, as well as key roles at the Swiss lender’s investment bank and fixed-income units in the region. Boer has been with Credit Suisse since 2015 and has over 30 years of experience in banking, of which 20 years was in leadership positions based in Singapore. She won the “Outstanding Women in Wealth Management” award from WealthBriefing Asia in 2014.
Wong is leaving to pursue outside interests. She will be replaced by Rehan Anwer, who will take on the role in addition to his current job as CEO South-east Asia, according to internal memos seen by the Bloomberg.
The departure comes at a time when the bank is trying to rebuild its fortunes after posting a loss for 2022 on the back of a series of problems. is restructuring, shrinking its risk exposures and investment bank, and pivoting more towards wealth management and advisory.
The report added that Dominique Boer is taking on the role of deputy CEO of Singapore. The appointments of Boer and Anwer are subject to regulatory approval, it added.
A number of former Credit Suisse managers have left, in some cases joining Deutsche Bank, in Asia. For example, Deutsche Bank recently appointed Serene Wee, a former long-standing senior Credit Suisse figure, as managing director and senior client partner in Southeast Asia Wealth Management. Deutsche Bank also appointed Johanes Oeni – also ex-Credit Suisse – as head of the international private bank, Southeast Asia
