appointed today former Singapore private bank head at Barclays, Evonne Tan (pictured), as chief executive officer of Asia Wealth Management, effective July 1. The move is subject to regulatory approval. Tan will be based in Singapore. The previous CEO in Asia at Schroders was Jason Lai, who is now chair of wealth management in Asia as part of a recent series of senior changes unveiled by Schroders in October last year. The move marks a significant step in accelerating the firm’s global growth strategy in one of the world’s most dynamic and fastest-growing wealth regions, UK-headquartered Schroders said in a statement. Tan will also become a member of the firm's wealth management executive committee. (Schroders is in the process of being acquired by US-headquartered Nuveen.) Tan will have responsibility for driving growth and deepening client relationships, Schroders said. Asia represents a critical growth market for the wealth manager, which said the region is experiencing expansion in high net worth and ultra-HNW wealth, alongside increasing demand for personalised, cross-border advice and access to global investment opportunities. Tan brings more than three decades of experience across wealth management, private banking, and global markets in Asia. Most recently, she was managing director and head of private bank, Singapore at Barclays, where she led the UK bank's re-entry into the region. Before her Barclays role, Tan held senior roles at UBS, where she was executive director and market team head for UHNW clients in Singapore. Earlier in her career, Tan held roles at Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank. The departure comes at a time when, as reported in November 2024, Barclays has sought to re-establish a Singapore booking centre, returning to the situation it was in a decade ago when it sold its private banking business in the region to OCBC, parent of Bank of Singapore. Despite that deal, Barclays retained important links with Asia. WealthBriefingAsia asked Barclays about what happens next. “Evonne Tan, head of Private Bank Singapore, has decided to leave Barclays in the second quarter of 2026. Evonne has been a respected leader and partner to colleagues across the region, and we wish her well for the future. A new head of Barclays Private Bank Singapore will be appointed, and updates will be shared in due course,” a Barclays spokesperson told this news service. Schroders elaborated on the thinking behind Tan's appointment. “Asia is central to our global ambition. With rapid wealth creation, increasing cross-border flows, and rising demand for sophisticated, advice-led solutions, the opportunity is significant,” Oliver Gregson, CEO, Wealth Management, said. “We are committed to investing in the region - strengthening our platform, enhancing our client proposition, and building a leading wealth management franchise. Evonne’s appointment is a key milestone in delivering that ambition.” “Asia presents a compelling opportunity, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the region and the wider group to deepen client relationships, enhance our offering, and build a leading wealth management business in Asia,” Tan said. Schroders recently marked 50 years in Singapore, reflecting the depth of its client relationships, local expertise, and sustained commitment to the region’s development. As reported in February, Barclays appointed Werner Schlossmacher as its chief operating officer for Barclays Private Bank Asia. The role was a newly formed one.
