EXCLUSIVE: Senior Departure From Asia-Pacific Bank

This publication brings another exclusive on a high-level move in the Asia private banking arena.
Mario Bassi, global head of business management at the private banking arm of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, or ANZ, has resigned from his post, this publication can exclusively report.
Bassi, who took up the role in 2013, is based in Sydney. Prior to holding that role, he was managing director and head of Asia for Solution Providers Management Consulting, a Swiss management consultancy firm. He joined that organisation in July 2010 from Deutsche Bank’s private wealth management arm, where he had held the role of head of strategy, business development, marketing and communications for Asia-Pacific.
He started his banking career in 1983 and worked with Vontobel and Credit Suisse, relocating to Singapore in 2001 before recently shifting to Australia, according to his Linkedin profile.
"We would like to thank and acknowledge Mario for his contribution to the growth and success of the private bank across Australia and Asia over the last two years," a spokesperson for ANZ told this publication.
"While we’re working to finalise a solution, all functions
located in Asia will be re-pointed into Global Wealth Asia
reporting into Bret Packard, and all functions currently located
in Australia will be re-pointed into Private Bank Australia under
Aaron Foo," the bank added.
In late June this publication exclusively reported that Kevin
Ong, head of the private bank for Southeast Asia, decided to
leave the banking industry.
In March this year, as a result of a reorganisation of its private banking and wealth teams in Asia, Bret Packard – as mentioned above - took on the role of leading private banking in the region. The departure of Manfred Liechti, global head of private banking at ANZ, was also exclusively reported by this publication late in February. Liechti has been in the industry for more than 25 years and had spent most of his career at UBS, joining ANZ in 2013.
