HSBC Private Bank Appoints New Managing Director In Asia

The private banking arm of HSBC has hired a replacement managing director to head up its Asia-Pacific global solutions group.

HSBC Private Bank has appointed Johnny Liu as managing director and regional head of its Asia-Pacific global solutions group.

HSBC said Liu has 15 years’ industry experience and spent the past 12 years with Credit Suisse, most recently as the latter company’s head of shareholder coverage and corporate advisory in Greater China.

In his new role, Liu and his team will be based in Hong Kong and will work closely with other HSBC global businesses, including global banking and markets and commercial banking, to develop bespoke solutions and non-traditional wealth management ideas for some of the bank’s top clients.

Liu replaces Terence Liang, who will assume a senior role in relationship management within the company.

“Johnny’s expertise in investment banking and advisory services will be an asset to develop highly tailored offerings for clients with complex needs,” said Ivan Wong, regional head of ISPS, APAC, adding: “We can offer clients exclusive and tailored investment opportunities, such as access to investment banking deals as core investors or strategic partners, capital support during various stages of a company’s growth, or global diversification opportunities across asset classes.”

Earlier this week, HSBC Private Bank made two senior appointments in its global private banking business, announcing that Siew Meng Tan will succeed Bernard Rennell as regional head of GPB, Asia-Pacific with effect from 1 January 2017, subject to regulatory approval, while Bernard has been appointed senior advisor to the chief executive, key client coverage, GPB.
