Senior Australian Figure Becomes Goldman Sachs Advisor

The advisor has served in numerous senior ministerial roles, and worked in an advisory capacity to figures such as former PM John Howard.
Goldman Sachs has named former Australian federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg as senior regional advisor for Asia-Pacific.
The Wall Street bank is welcoming a man who, among other tasks, had the role of managing Australia’s economy during the pandemic crisis. He has been in politics for decades, having been elected to the Australian Parliament in 2010 as the member for Kooyong in Victoria. In August 2018, he was elected Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and was appointed Treasurer of Australia.
Among other ministerial posts, Frydenberg has served as minister for the environment and energy, minister for resources, energy and Northern Australia, assistant treasurer and parliamentary secretary to the Prime Minister since the 2013 election.
“Our Australian clients will greatly benefit from Josh’s insights and expertise that have been gained from an impressive career which includes experience and perspectives across a range of sectors,” Simon Rothery, chief executive for Goldman Sachs in Australia and New Zealand, said.
Frydenberg, who has law and economics degrees from Monash University, completed his articles of clerkship at Mallesons Stephen Jacques. He holds a masters in international relations from Oxford University which he attended on a Commonwealth Scholarship. He later obtained a masters in public administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He was a senior advisor to prime minister John Howard and was also a director of global banking at Deutsche Bank.
